Weight gain after pregnancy-Management



Mother puts on around 11 kg of weight at the end of pregnancy generally. This consist of three to four kg of fetal weitght, one to one and half kg of amniotic fluid and rest due to body fluid and fat depositionNature has made this arrangement to prepare the body for care of the baby. So when a mother is concerned with her weight gain and her figure we suggest them to analyze their following matters:
  • Breast feeding 
  • Diet and Nutrition
  •  Exercise 
  • Psychological health
  •  Daily routine 
Breast feeding.......
There is no wonder that breast milk is made up from mothers prime energetic constituents. Breast milk contain 4.3 percent of fat. So if mother wants to reduce body fat breast feeding is one of the most effective way which is easier as compare to any other option. Moreover you are with you baby which gives your emotional well being...... .
Diet and Nutirtion......
Dieting after delivery is no as simple programme as for another person. Here you have to take care of nutrition of your baby and well being of yourself too.
Here dieting doesn't mean that you have to stop fat or carbohydrate intake totally.Especially in Indian context you wont be able to stick to this chart due to traditional beliefs of your mother in law.
In fact you have to continue carbohydrate and fats for nutrition to your baby. But be careful about fat that fat doesn't mean about processed cheese processed butter or refined wheat ie. Meda. It should be of saturated oil and pure ghee or milk , and carbohydrate doesn't mean to take soft drinks.
Take enough amount of protein as well and don't forget about vitamins and calcium rich diet
Just remember, dieting should not be the main way of weight loss after pregnancy. Instead choose other ways like breast feeding,exercise etc.
Exercise.....
I do not get time from busy schedule for baby. This is a common complain phrase from mother for not adapting exercise in their daily routine. But if you are healthy and fit for exercise then walking is one of the best exercises for weight loss. You can do this when you take you baby for outings in the evening.
Psycological health......
It is proven that there is direct correlation between mood swing and weight. Excessive depression can cause over eating and increase in weight. Baby care and that too specifically during first child can be of tremendous stress, but take care to stay healthy for mental well being....Walk in open air, play with baby and do Savasana if you are under stress...........
